Melianthus major leaf rachis

The rachis of a mature Melianthus major leaf appears channelled, but only between leaflet pairs.

The rachis wings in picture are toothed only near the upper leaflet pair, the toothing smaller than that of the lower leaflet margins near them. The teeth tend to be prolonged in hair-like extensions.

Whitish lateral veins arise into the marginal leaf teeth. Some branching occurs, ending where teeth meet (Manning, 2007; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
