Short, under-developed Oedera squarrosa ray florets are also seen, the heads dominated by the disc florets already open, i.e. not so young. Rays may sometimes remain short, here angled up. Even when the rays are longer, they are short compared to the length of the involucres.
Collectively the florets bulge wider at the top of the head than the brownish, cylindrical involucre, forming an inverted bell-shape.
