    When bloomtime passes, the dishevelled look of a Massonia depressa inflorescence becomes less flowery, although the collapsing stamens can still be recognised.

    The erect bracts surrounding the scrapheap below which the ovaries are turning into fruit have gone pink-purple to liven up proceedings.

    Faint purple blotching can be detected in the dull shine of the dark green leaves spreading around (Manning, 2007).
