In this flower of Ornithoglossum vulgare the three long, thin and free styles can be seen emerging from the top of the brownish superior ovary and spreading widely. Each has a dull white section at the base that becomes faintly speckled with maroon in the central part and green near the stigma tip.
The ovary and anthers are darker in this older flower, compared to the young flower also shown in this Album. These flowers do not last very long. Lurking behind the open flower there is a greenish unopened bud on a long pedicel (Van Rooyen and Van Rooyen, 2019; iNaturalist; www.pacificbulbsociety.org).
