Maytenus procumbens flowering

Maytenus procumbens has no thorns (similar to trees of its genus). Its leaves are oblong to elliptical in shape. The leaves taper at both ends with a few spine-tipped teeth along the margins. Leaf colour is glossy to bluish green on the upper surface, paler to yellowish green below. The leaf texture is leathery.

This spectacular blooming was photographed in Kirstenbosch during March. Dense axillary clusters of the small, greenish white florets gave insects much to rave about (Coates Palgrave, 2002; JSTOR).
