Moraea lewisiae subsp. lewisiae produces star-shaped flowers in lateral clusters on sturdy, erect stems.
Each flower comprises six similar tepals in two whorls of three. The tepals in shades of yellow are obovate and bluntly pointed with visible midribs that are sometimes faintly green. The outer tepals are slightly larger as Moraea tepals often are, the inner ones in picture slightly deeper yellow. Dark speckles are sometimes seen in the flower centres. Flower diameter is about 3 cm.
The three, deep-yellow, cylindrical anthers curve out, sometimes with rolled-in tips. The style is divided into six thread-like branches ending in stigmas spreading among the anthers.
The fragrant flowers open in mid-afternoon and wither by dusk. Flowering usually happens from before midspring to early summer.
