Moraea ochroleuca

Moraea ochroleuca is commonly known as the apricot tulp (the Afrikaans for tulip), in Afrikaans as the aas-uintjie (carrion or bait nutgrass or nutsedge) and botanically previously as Homeria ochroleuca. It is a sturdy cormous perennial, the deciduous above-ground parts reaching heights from 35 cm to 75 cm.

The species distribution is in the Western Cape from Citrusdal to the Cape Peninsula and eastwards to Caledon and Hermanus.

The habitat is fynbos on rocky sandstone slopes and coastal flats. Flowering happens almost exclusively in seasons following fire. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
