    Thickened keels can be observed on the outer surfaces of the old Monsonia spinosa sepals. They form conspicuous ridges that continue into long protrusions upon their tips.

    The now brown anthers won’t take long before dropping off the filament tips. The significant events in the flower life cycle have by this time shifted into the ovary.

    Other flowers representing different developmental stages share the stem-tip (Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
