The simple leaves of Muraltia squarrosa grow sessile, meaning stalkless, in dense tufts.
The leaf-shape is ovate, tapering at its tip into a sharpish spine. The pale to dark green leaf surfaces are hairy, sometimes particularly along the margins.
The thickish blade curves in from the entire lateral margins, while older leaves tend to curve out at their tips (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Moriarty, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
