Ornithogalum dubium, sometimes called the sun star or geeltjienk (yellow chincherinchee) in Afrikaans, is a perennial, bulbous plant bearing flowers of various colours.

The tepals may be yellow as in the photo, but there are white, orange or even red forms, often with green or brown centres. The raceme is rounded and the flowers that appear in the second half of the year are glossy.

The bulb has a black tunic. There are three to eight yellowish green, spreading, oblong leaves with ciliate, finely fringed margins (Manning 2007; Wikipedia; www.pacificbulbsociety.org).
