These four tiny Ornithogalum sardienii plants appear in single file in a small crevice in gravelly terrain near Calitzdorp in September. They are so small that many will walk over them without noticing.
Their diminutive dimensions might work in their favour, both in being missed by over-interested people and herbivores, as well as by requiring little to sustain them in the veld (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015).
