Pterygodium crispum, commonly the pigsnout orchid, in Afrikaans the geel bastertrewwa (yellow false trewwa) and previously Corycium crispum, is a robust orchid growing annual above-ground parts from a perennial tuber to heights from 30 cm to 42 cm. The old plant parts turn black.
The species distribution is in the Northern Cape and the Western Cape from Springbok and the Kamiesberg to Cape Peninsula and eastwards to Laingsburg, Albertinia and the Gamkaberg south of Oudtshoorn.
The habitat is sandy flats among karoid scrub, fynbos and strandveld to elevations around 1500 m. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Liltved and Johnson, 2012; Le Roux, et al, 2005; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
