This Piaranthus geminatus subsp. geminatus flower has a small yellow centre or corona. It is cream coloured upon the larger star-shape of its corolla, while some plants flower red. The tiny red to purple brown dots scattered across the corolla surface are quite insignificant on this flower. They are larger and more in number to present a predominantly red flower on the red flowering plants. Both colours occur near Oudtshoorn where the photo was taken.
Although this stem-tip flower is solitary, the typical twin-star blooming tendency of the species that resulted in the specific name is again presented by the pair of developing buds in the background (White and Sloane, 1937; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010).
