In this disintegrated flowerhead of Protea repens the involucre is widely open. The reddish brown inner surfaces of the innermost bracts are straight, curving inwards along their margins.
In the centre a tangled mass of collapsed remains of styles and other floret parts persist. Some long brown hairs cover the tiny nutlets that may grow when embedded in moist soil. These fruits are still mostly attached to the long styles (Rourke, 1980).
