Protea magnifica beard in three colours

This creamy green to pale yellow flowering form of Protea magnifica is not as common as the pink one, but has a charm and popularity of its own.

The bracts suggest translucence against the light. White and black woolly hairs on florets and bract tips suggest the beardedness of the species often mentioned. Some bract tips in the photo also have brown hairs. Slight inward curving and black discoloration can be observed on some bract tips (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Rourke, 1980).
