    Flowering is history in this Pelargonium magenteum umbel, given way to fruiting. When the corollas shrivel and disappear the hairy calyces prevail, providing cover for the developing fruit.

    One sepal is erect in each flower, the others bent down in contrast like two types of dog ears. Every Pelargonium flower has one sepal that is different, forming a hollow spur where nectar can be expected. The nectar-bearing tube in the sepal is fused with the flower’s pedicel, this flower type’s hypanthium or floral cup (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Leistner, ((Ed.), 2000; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984).
