Pelargonium abrotanifolium

Pelargonium abrotanifolium, in Afrikaans commonly the klipmalva (stone geranium) and previously P. incisum, is a much-branched, woody shrublet that resprouts after fire and reaches heights from 30 cm to 60 cm. It forms part of the Reniformia section of the Pelargonium genus.

The species distribution ranges across the Western Cape, the Eastern Cape and the Northern Cape, as well as into the Free State. The photo was taken near Barrydale.

The habitat is dry, lowland, clayey flats, slopes and rocky outcrops in renosterveld, fynbos, grassland, thicket, Nama Karoo and succulent Karoo. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
