Pelargonium luridum fruiting

A fruiting Pelargonium luridum umbel suddenly finds gravity more compelling a force than in its flowering days. Past anthesis, the transitional droop may be an indication of successful pollination. The developing schizocarps, still green here, are assuming the storkbill shape. They nearly match the pedicel length as they hang.

Many wild pelargoniums display asynchronous flowering, meaning that some flowers in the same pseudo-umbel lead, others lag (Pooley, et al, 2005; Manning, 2009; Germishuizen and Clarke, 2003; Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist).
