Pelargonium zonale flowers

The flowers of Pelargonium zonale grow in long-stalked umbels or rounded clusters of up to 70 flowers per cluster. A flower is about 3 cm in diameter with a flower tube or hypanthium that varies from 2,5 cm to 4,5 cm in length.

Flower colours vary in several shades of pink and occasionally are also red or white. The upper two petals have dark, straight line markings from the base, but are sometimes not very different in shape or much larger than the lower three. Upper petal tips may be a little more angular than the rounded lower ones, sometimes slightly taller on the inside.

Flowering happens in spring and early summer, less frequently at other times, even all year long (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Manning, 2009; iSpot).
