Pelargonium griseum

This delightful little Karoo shrublet is Pelargonium griseum. The photo was taken in October in open veld a few kilometres from Beaufort West. The stand of plants all had the same flower colour and form. Typical long Pelargonium fruits were noticed on some of the plants among the flowers. The height reached by the plants was 45 cm. The leaves are aromatic. 

P. griseum is only slightly browsed by game and livestock.  An infusion of the leaves is said to be used against colds, rheumatism and gout in the Sutherland area (Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008).
