    From below, the green, curved pedicels of individual Pelargonium leipoldtii flowers in the umbel are clear to see. The peduncle that holds them all up is a duller, olive green colour than the pedicels and also straight, stout and sturdy, suited to its function of carrying many flowers and later fruit.

    A ring of narrow, oblong bracts that earlier enclosed the whole bunch of bud beginnings remains around the pedicel bases, hardly noticed and irrelevant to developmental proceedings after early functionality (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
