Pachycarpus campanulatus var. sutherlandii flowers from below

Seen from below, the view into the flowers of Pachycarpus campanulatus var. sutherlandii allows a glimpse into the dome or broad bell-shape of the corolla. The corolla cups are from 2 cm to 4 cm in diameter. Their inner surfaces are creamy white and shiny as the outer surface, as well as finely textured.

The spreading lobes of the dark corona in the shape of a narrow-limbed five-point star are situated against the ceiling of the corolla dome. They surround the style head and anther appendages. The corona lobes dark here, may appear pale in the flowers of some plants, either reflecting a different stage in the flowering cycle or intraspecies differences (iSpot).
