The leaves of Pachycarpus plicatus ascend from short petioles; nearly no petioles. The leaf-shape is variable: oblong to lanceolate or elliptic with rounded, acutely or obtusely pointed tips and rounded to wedge-shaped bases.

The leaf margins are entire and wavy, the leaf colour dark green. The sturdy midrib is creamy white, as are the parallel lateral veins that curve forward near the margins. Leaf surfaces are rough to the touch and may be hairy, especially on the lower surface near the margins and midrib (JSTOR; iSpot).
