The flowers of Polygala microlopha var. microlopha grow in stem-tip clusters on side-branchlets. The flowers are about 15 mm in diameter.

The pair of lateral sepals resembling petals are oblique in shape, spreading widely. Flower colour largely provided by this pair varies in often lighter shades of pink or pinkish purple. On the outside they are much darker, sometimes brownish purple with conspicuous vein lines.

The very small crest on the tip of the keel petal is characteristic of P. microlopha. Microlopha is derived from the Greek words mikros meaning small and lophos meaning a crest.

Flowering happens in winter and spring (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
