Polygala myrtifolia var. pinifolia is a shrub that grows to 1,5 m. There is sparse branching from the base and higher up. Lower down the branches become rigid and woody.
The plant is found in the Western Cape, at least in the Little Karoo and also in the Eastern Cape. The photo was taken in the Rooiberg during October.
The habitat is scrub and renosterveld in clay soils. The variety is not considered threatened in habitat early in the twenty first century (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; JSTOR; iNaturalist).
