Phylica lachneaeoides inflorescence

The stem-tip head of Phylica lachneaeoides flowers is shaped like an umbel. The tubular, pink calyces are white-haired, widening to their tips and each ending in five triangular lobes.

None of the flowers in picture is fully open yet. They reach a diameter of 5 mm when they spread and the lobes sometimes recurve a little. The style is slightly longer than the five large anthers surrounding it.

Bloomtime is normally from end autumn to early spring. The photo was taken in May (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
