Phylica axillaris leaves

The numerous simple leaves of Phylica axillaris are small, the stems hairy. The stalkless leaves ascend upon the stems and spread, growing alternate, sub-opposite or spiralling.

The leaf-shape is lanceolate, the margins are rolled under. The upper surfaces are dark green, smooth and sometimes glossy but may be hairy when young. The lower surfaces are covered in pale, woolly hairs.

Leaf dimensions are up to 15 mm long and 5 mm wide (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; Gledhill, 1981; iNaturalist).
