Phylica pubescens flowerhead

The feathery, stem-tip Phylica pubescens flowerhead is silvery from dominating silky bracts. The petals are ovate and slightly cupped, the stamens attached to the petal walls in the corolla tube. The heads are about 4 cm wide. Flowering occurs from late autumn through winter.

Some dark green, long and narrow to nearly needle-like leaves are visible, also the fine hairs upon them. The leaves spiral around thickish, pale and hairy upper stems. The acutely pointed leaf-tips curve down. The leaf margins are rolled under, the channel remaining on the lower surface white velvety (Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; Mustart, et al, 1997; iNaturalist).
