Phylica ericoides flowerheads at a stem-tip

A flowering Phylica ericoides stem-tip shows the white dome of fluffy, globular heads compactly made up of tiny florets. The petals are hooded or helmet-like. The florets in each head are very small, from 1,5 mm to 2 mm long. Each head is from 4 mm to 7 mm wide.

The leaves come up around the inflorescence, their tips acutely pointed here, ending in mucro-like protrusions. This is what one would expect of var. zeyheri plants growing near Caledon as this one does, for the subspecies known to grow like that is found there.
