This photo of Pteronia flexicaulis was taken in the Kammanassie during April after its summer flowering.

The opposite (and decussate) leaf-pairs mainly curve up in regular, green bows, right up to the ovoid but pointed, pale brown fruits. The imbricate (overlapping) bracts of the fruit’s involucre have closed over the developing seeds inside.

The youngest stem parts in picture are green. A few internodes lower the stems are brown, while on stem-parts further down the leaves are long gone, the stems grey and slightly rough (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; JSTOR).
