The yellow flowerheads of Pteronia elongata grow solitary without peduncles at stem-tips.

The heads comprise bisexual disc florets only, no ray florets. The compact discs are held together by involucres consisting of a few rows of overlapping, sticky bracts. The involucres are cylindrical to bulging somewhat. Their bracts have pointed tips that broaden to the base or are about oblong with membranous, often torn margins.

The heads are about 3 cm long and 1,5 cm in diameter. Maybe the specific name, elongata, refers to elongation in the flowerheads.

Flowering happens from late winter to early summer.

The fruits are slightly hairy (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; JSTOR; iNaturalist).
