Pteronia glauca anchored at some branch tips

The outer branches of the boegoekaroo (or geelboegoekaroo, i.e. yellow boegoekaroo) tend downwards and sometimes root at the tips as this plant has done. The shrub resembles Pteronia incana that has an upright growth habit and does not anchor its branches.

One narrow flowerhead ready to open is visible at a stem tip above the ascending leaves. The plant was seen near Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo, a region where 20 of the about 80 species of Pteronia are found (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010).
