Pteronia incana flowering

The flowerheads of Pteronia incana are long and narrow, about 1,5 cm in diameter. Each yellow disc floret has five narrow lobes that spread widely. Three to five rows of yellowish green involucral bracts surround the corolla. They are not sticky.

The flowers have a pleasant coconut scent. Flowering happens in late winter and spring.

The seeds resemble those of sunflowers in shape. Each seed is crowned with a pappus of golden bristles (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; iSpot; www.renu-karoo.co.za).
