Long succulent Pachypodium succulentum branches in picture are grey, their gnarled appearance due to the dropped-off leaves and spines of earlier years.
The current year’s leaf clusters are small, dull green and erect at the stem-tips that are not producing flowers.
The open flowers have their petal lobes recurved into an about spherical shape around the upper halves of the cylindrical corolla tubes (Frandsen, 2017; Smith, et al, 2017; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
