Struthiola dodecandra, in Afrikaans the soetgonna (sweet gonna), is an erect shrub that grows thin, wand-like branches to heights around 80 cm. The few slender stems in the photo are barely visible against the backdrop of adjacent plants, hardly thicker than the stems of the neighbouring restio.
The distribution of the plant lies from the Cape Peninsula eastwards to the southern Cape along lower sandstone slopes and flats. The species is not considered threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Manning, 2007; iSpot; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
