Struthiola eckloniana is a single-stemmed shrub reaching heights up to 2 m. It does not resprout after fire.
The flowers grow solitary from leaf axils near stem tips. They may be white, pink or yellow. The four sepals are joined in a long cylindrical tube, more than double the length of the leaves. Eight fleshy petal-like scales are positioned in a ring around the flower mouth. The four stamens inside the tube do not protrude. Flowering happens in spring and summer.
The species distribution ranges from the west around Caledon, through the Little Karoo and to the southeast on mountain slopes near George and Knysna.
The species is found in habitats of varied fynbos, often on damp, sometimes grassy slopes. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Moriarty, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iSpot; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
