    Seen up close, the eight petal-like scales around the Struthiola ciliata flower mouth appear fleshy, glossy and dull yellow. They are paired in an unobtrusive way and angled up slightly.

    The larger, round-tipped sepal lobes sagging below them are pale cream. Tiny, pale yellow anthers are visible in the flower mouth (Manning, 2007; iNaturalist).
