Schotia latifolia leaves

The alternate leaves of Schotia latifolia are paripinnate, meaning the leaf is compound without a terminal leaflet. The leaf is up to 10 cm long.

Each leaf consists of three to five pairs of opposite leaflets, those at the tip the biggest. The leaflet shape is elliptic to oblong and asymmetric, particularly at the base. The tips and bases of leaflets either taper or are rounded, the margins entire.

The dark green blades are leathery, showing its venation against the light. The midrib is strongly defined, the ascending lateral veins less so, petering out in uneven net-veining. The petiole of up to 2 cm is sometimes winged when young. There are no petiolules on the leaflets. Leaflet dimensions are from 2,5 cm to 6 cm long and 1,4 cm to 3,5 cm wide (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002; Pooley, 1993; iNaturalist).
