The lavender or mauve flowers of Selago villicaulis have funnel-shaped and two-lipped corollas. The five corolla lobes spreading from the mouth are oblong, unequal and round-tipped. One long lobe is flanked by a shorter pair, while the remaining shortest pair forms the opposite lip of the laterally symmetrical flower.
The yellow or brownish anthers are exserted from the mouth, the style longer.
The rounded buds in picture are darker than the open flowers, although some inner surfaces of the spread lobe tips are also darker and purplish in colour (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://pza.sanbi.org).
