The flower of Romulea macowanii var. macowanii grows on a short stalk, concealed because of its small size or hidden at ground level by the leaves.

The tepals are joined at the base, forming a short tube. Higher up they spread gradually in a funnel-shape, recurving gracefully towards their tips. The flower colour is bright yellow. The outside surfaces of the tepals have longitudinal pale reddish brown lines in the yellow part. At the base they are nearly white. The tepals are narrowly elliptic, tapering to acute tips.

The oblong and narrow anthers are stiffly erect in the corolla throat. The style is positioned in the flower centre among the stamens. The branched stigma is obscured from view, being shorter than the surrounding anthers (Manning, 2009).
