    From the side the Quaqua armata subsp. maritima flower shows the lateral folding back of the corolla lobes. The lower part of the corolla, where the lobes are joined in the funnel-shaped cup, is cream with maroon spots. The flower stalk is very short, nearly absent.

    The cone-shaped, stem tubercle tips are dull orange. The stem surface is pale and powdery, varying in colour from whitish to purple and green (Frandsen, 2017; White and Sloane, 1937; iNaturalist).
