Streptocarpus primulifolius, previously S. insignis and (partly) S. rexii which is in its newer definition still closely related, is a perennial growing from a stout, horizontal rhizome to heights around 27 cm.

The corolla tube base is narrow, the calyx lobes around it in picture small and spreading. The flower pedicel is short, the cluster peduncle longer, erect and sturdy. The leaf bases taper around the pale midribs. Leaves vary in being glossy or velvety.

The species distribution is mainly coastal in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.

The plants grow in damp forests, often on slopes among rocks and moss. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist; http://pza.sanbi.org; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
