Streptocarpus vandeleurii is a stemless perennial growing just one leaf. A monocarpic plant, it dies after flowering once.

The distribution of this South African endemic is central in the region north of the Vaal River, in Gauteng, the east of North West, the south of Limpopo and the west and centre of Mpumalanga, the plant not common anywhere.

The habitat is crevices of rocky outcrops and the upper parts of kloofs. The shallow root system often grows in thin layers of moss or humus on rocks. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Van Wyk and Malan, iNaturalist; http://pza.sanbi.org; http://redlist.sanbi).
