The flat-topped buds of Schizoglossum hamatum are between round and slightly five-pointed. Starting off green, the buds of this plant become brown on top when opening is near. This feature has variations in the species. A green bud is visible in the centre in picture, still on a shorter pedicel than the open flowers and the browned buds that developed earlier. The five corolla lobes overlap, meticulously covering the floral bits inside. The colour difference between the covered and uncovered parts of the corolla outer surfaces during the bud phase are clear to see on the outside of open flower lobes.

The investigating ant is unlikely to leave hungry. Also not without doing its good deed for the day, pollinated flowers being the beneficiaries.

The glossy leaf part in picture shows shine on a somewhat quilted, green surface of upcurving but sunken lateral veins from the midrib, amplified by lesser net-veining. The surface is coarse from being faintly pitted (Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist; https://www.worldfloraonline.org).
