Salvia aurita, in Afrikaans commonly known as oogseerbossie (little eyesore bush), is a perennial herb growing to heights (or width) around 1,2 m. The erect or straggling stems are variably hairy.

The species distribution is widespread from the southern Cape through the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and the Mpumalanga and Limpopo Lowveld.

The plant grows along streambanks. Neither of the two varieties (var. aurita and var. galpinii) is considered to be threatened in its (largely overlapping) distribution early in the twenty first century (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; JSTOR; http://pza.sanbi.org; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
