The stalked leaves of Salvia aurita are aromatic. The leaf-shape is ovate or obovate to elliptic and nearly rounded, rarely slightly lobed near the base. The leaf margins are irregularly and angularly toothed.

The pale leaf midrib is prominent on the lower surface. The leaf blade folds in slightly along its midrib, the lateral veins ascending from it and merging in their upper parts into conspicuous net-veining near the margins (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; JSTOR; http://pza.sanbi.org).
