Searsia magalismontana subsp. coddii is a shrub of sometimes more than 2 m . The new leaf growth is pinkish or golden, before the leaves mature and become grey-green. The trifoliolate leaflets are hairless, narrow and elliptic. The terminal leaflet is slightly bigger than the other two. The veins are prominent on both surfaces. The fruits are small as can be seen in the photo.

This subspecies grows on the Soutpansberg in Limpopo, believed to be a South African endemic. There is a smaller subspecies, subsp. magalismontana, more widely distributed and growing to about 30 cm on the Magaliesberg and the Witwatersrand. The third recognised subspecies is subsp. trifoliolata, also found in the Limpopo province. None of the three subspecies is considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Coates Palgrave, 2002; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
