The leaves of Searsia pyroides, trifoliolate as is typical of the genus, have elliptic to obovate leaflets. The terminal leaflet is from 6 mm to 85 mm long and from 5 mm to 30 mm wide. The lateral leaflets are noticeably smaller. The leaflet tip may be tapering or rounded, sometimes irregularly toothed.

The leaf colour is olive green above, paler and hairier below. The midribs, lateral veins and finer net-veining are usually prominent on the lower surface, less so in the forms of the plant that are hairier.

The leaves have fairly long petioles, sometimes up to 4,5 cm, while the individual leaflets have no petiolules at all (Coates Palgrave, 2002).
