    These Satyrium leaves were seen sheathing a developing flower stem not yet emerging at the top. The photo was taken on Table Mountain in November.

    There are 29 Satyrium species in the fynbos (out of about 88 in the genus). Manning (2007) describes at least six of them occurring in the Peninsula, possibly also on the Mountain. Several of these plants have only two to four leaves, some borne at ground level only. This one might be S. odorum, the green satyr orchid?
