Satyrium carneum inflorescence

The inflorescence of Satyrium carneum is a dense raceme that may bear from 14 to 45 flowers, commonly between 19 and 38. The stout flower stems vary in height from 35 cm to 85 cm.

Flowering happens in spring, sometimes lingering on into early summer. Pollination of these unscented flowers is done by a few species of sunbird (Liltved and Johnson, 2012; www.plantzafrica.com).
